Burned, devastated, and torn apart, Borodyanka has become a symbol of strength and unbreakable will. Images of destroyed buildings, a monument to Taras Shevchenko hollowed by bullet holes, and that kitchen cabinet with the ceramic rooster that clung to the wall of the destroyed multi-story building have spread throughout the world.
Immediately after the de-occupation, people began to return home to rebuild and continue life in the Borodyanka region. Thus, the burned, devastated, and torn-apart Borodyanka symbolized the strength of spirit and unbreakable will.
During the hostilities in 2022, the Borodyanka territorial community suffered significant destruction. A total of 2234 objects were entirelv or partially destroyed.
In particular, occupiers destroyed 80 apartment buildings and 2116 private houses, 10 schools and 6 kindergartens, 13 administrative buildings, 7 cultural institutions, 2 social protection institutions, as well as roads and vital networks for the community residents.
To this day, 28 multi-story buildings and 1062 private houses have yet to be restored in Borodyanka and the community villages. Over 5000 community residents cannot return home due to the lack of housing.
The estimated damage caused only to residential buildings and household constructions amounts to 95 million dollars, according to the KSE Institute’s research. This presentation visualizes the condition of the critical social and residential infrastructure of the Borodyanka community. We dream of a renewed city where our uniqueness blends harmoniously with the best European practices.
